THE UKRAINIAN THEATER LIFE IN NORTHERN BUKOVYNA ON THE PAGES OF THE DAILY NEWSPAPER «CHAS» (CHERNIVTSI, 1928–1940)

Abstract: The article explores the coverage of theatrical topics in the inter-war Bukovyna periodicals. The research was based on the Chernivtsi daily newspaper «Chas». The general trends and genres that authors addressed most frequently were analyzed. The main topics that revealed the features of the contemporary theater movement in Bukovyna were highlighted. The authors of theater-critical publications were identified. The author indicated that special attention was paid to the problems of uniting the Ukrainian Chernivtsi theater troupes into one representative national theater and the modernization of the theater repertoire. The study has confirmed that, among the variety of genres, play reviews prevailed.

Keywords: theatrical topics, Chas newspaper, Northern Bukovyna, «Ukrainian Theater» in Chernivtsi, theatre troupe, play review.
