THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE FEUILLETON GENRE IN THE LVIV NEWSPAPER «NOVY CHAS» (1923-1939)

Abstract: This paper investigates the feuilletons of the newspaper «Novy Chas» (Lviv, 1923–1939), of which more than 600 were published during the 17 years of publication.
The authors of these publications were established, and their pseudonyms were revealed, since almost all of them hid their real surnames. The most active feuilletonists, as well as those who published irregularly or had a single publication in this genre, were identified. The problematic of the studied feuilletons were determined, and position of their authors in relation to the Polish government and certain ethnic groups was established.
The paper outlines the names of authors whose works were reprinted from other periodicals, namely: the classic satirical genre of Ostap Vyshnia, who lived and worked in the territory of Soviet Ukraine, as well as the Russian Soviet writer-novelist of Ukrainian origin Mykhailo Zoshchenko.
More than 160 satirical articles by Vasyl Girny, as well as materials by other authors of this publication, such as Roman Goliyan, Stepan Charnetsky, and Yuriy Shkrumelyak, were noticed on the pages of the «Novy Chas» newspaper.

Keywords: Novy Chas newspaper, feuilleton, column, satirist, subject, pseudonym, cryptonym.
