Osyp Boidunyk as a Publicist: The Nationalist Discourse
This article explores the journalistic output of Osyp Boidunyk, one of the leading figures of the Ukrainian nationalist movement in the mid-20th century. It identifies the periodicals to which he contributed, those in which he was directly involved in publishing, and those he initiated. The aim of the article is to document all periodicals published with Boidunyk’s participation, to provide the most complete list possible of his articles across various journals and newspapers, and to determine the range of topics that interested him. To achieve this, reference sources, memoirs, and scholarly literature on the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) were examined. A thorough analysis of newspapers and magazines in which he might have published was conducted, and pseudonym and cryptonym dictionaries were reviewed to establish the signatures he used. The research employed historical, analytical, and biographical methods.
This study is timely, as existing extensive biographies of the author have never given due attention to his journalistic work, focusing instead primarily on his socio-political activity, which was indeed significant. The novelty of the article lies in the successful collection of his publications and the identification of a previously unknown cryptonym he used.
Conclusions: throughout his life, Osyp Boidunyk actively participated in the activities of Ukrainian nationalist organizations and devoted considerable attention to promoting his beliefs among the public through press publications, informing readers about the work of these structures.
Keywords: Osyp Boidunyk, Organisation of Ukrainian Nationalists, press, opinion journalism, «Holos Natsii».
