Rhyming pseudonyms of Ukrainian authors of the 19th–21st centuries: peculiarities of creation and use.
The purpose of this article is to examine rhyming pseudonyms used by Ukrainian authors in the 19th–21st centuries, analyze the characteristic ways in which they were created, and identify features of their use. The task of the study is to find rhyming signatures among the array of Ukrainian pseudonyms collected in the book “Hidden Names: A Dictionary of Pseudonyms of Ukrainian Authors of the 19th–21st Centuries,” analyze the ways they were created, systematize them accordingly, and establish the peculiarities of their use. Research methods: systematic, analytical, descriptive, which made it possible to select rhyming pseudonyms, study the ways they were created, and determine the peculiarities of their use. The novelty of the article lies in the fact that rhyming pseudonyms of Ukrainian authors are studied for the first time as a separate coherent group, which is distinguished by a number of features, in particular regarding the ways they are created and used. Conclusions: It has been established that among the pseudonyms of Ukrainian authors of the 19th–20th centuries, there are a small number of signatures consisting of two words chosen with rhyme in mind—rhyming pseudonyms. Based on the materials of the publication “Hidden Names: A Dictionary of Pseudonyms of Ukrainian Authors of the 19th–21st Centuries,” a selection of such pseudonyms was made, the methods of their formation were analyzed, and, accordingly, they were systematized into two groups: 1) pseudonyms formed on the basis of autonyms; 2) pseudonyms created without any connection to autonyms. It was found that different methods of creation were used in each of these subgroups. It was established that Ukrainian authors signed rhyming pseudonyms to publications of various genres, both in separate editions and in periodicals of various types, orientations, and purposes, which were printed in Ukraine and other countries of Europe and North America from the 1870s to the present. It is noted that other features of rhyming pseudonyms require further research, such as functional load, semantic-motivational analysis, etc.
Keywords: Ukrainian authors, rhyming pseudonyms, methods of creation, signatures, Ukrainian periodicals.
