The camp and its publishing resource: «Orlyk» (Berchtesgaden, 1946–1948)

Abstract: This article explores the relationship between the displaced persons’ camp and its main communication channel — the camp journal. Based on one of the most successful examples — the Ukrainian-language monthly «Orlyk» — the author analyzes the journal’s subject matter, its involvement in developing emigre intellectual content, its ability to influence everyday camp life, and its capacity to advance strategies for representing the Ukrainian foreign community on a long-term basis.

Keywords:  Ukrainian emigration, displaced persons’ camps, DP camp journal, Europe, 1940s.
